For those living in the States, it’s normal to plan a 1-2 week vacation to Europe to cross off as many hot spots as possible. For those living in Europe, it’s much more simple to travel for a long weekend to other European destinations. Therefore, a 2-day weekend itinerary for Prague is more common than not.

Prague is a larger city than what you may think. Going into it, I thought it was a smaller, walkable city. I quickly realized that it has several neighborhoods to explore with so much to see. If you do have just 2 days, this is my recommendation for making the most of your time.

Also take a look at my blog post on how to prepare for your trip to Prague so you waste zero time on figuring things out when you arrive. Now let’s get into it!

Day 1: a full day experience

Morning – Nusle

Waf Waf restaurant in Prague is the perfect place for breakfast. Their waffles and pancakes are delicious and so picturesque.

The first day is a perfect one to explore out of the city center and into more of a local area. The area of Nusle is a local, more “hipster” area. There are several coffee shops, parks and old architecture to view. You can head to Waf-Waf for a fancy waffle or stack of pancakes. They are not only delicious, but definitely picture worthy.

If you’re a coffee or tea drinker, explore the areas best coffee shops. A few are Anthill, Monolok cafe, and Boheme Cafe.

Afternoon – explore by scooter

Now that you are all stuffed and energized from the food and coffee, wandering around Nusle and enjoying the parks will be your next move. You can start making your way towards Park Folimanka then to Vyšehrad, which is a castle and museum. The river across the street is also perfect to relax and sit down for a bit to rest your feet.

Lounge by the river in Prague to get a more local experience. Here is my 2-day itinerary for Prague.

After wandering around, pick up a Lime scooter and ride along the river towards the Charles Bridge. Make sure to download the app beforehand so it is quick and easy to rent. It’s a perfect way to explore the city if you are on a time constraint. Normally I would walk around, but the scooter experience was seriously so much fun!

After the scooter ride, spot the Dancing House which is two bridges down from Charles Bridge. It’s quite unique if I may say so myself!

Night – old town, dinner & cave bars

Ride the scooter or walk back into the Old Town square. Once you arrive, there are vendors that you can peek around and shop at along with food. I recommend getting dessert before dinner and grab the famous ice cream called Trdelnik. It’s basically a deep fried donut in place of a cone with ice cream in the middle. Absolutely worth it!

Trdelnik ice cream in Prague has to be on your to do list. In Old Town Prague there is several vendors and you will have a beautiful view too.

For dinner, if you are staying at Hostel One Home, which I recommend, they have family dinners for free every night. If you are on a budget and looking to make new friends, I recommend this option.

If not, there are many delicious restaurants in the city. I only did dinner at the hostel, so I will send you over to Getting Stamped for restaurant recommendations.

After dinner, you have to get a beer or two at Prague’s underground bars. They are extremely unique and a perfect place to relax and chat with locals or other travelers. Here are a few you should try:

Day 2: morning wake up call

Morning – explore with the sun

You may not like this, but I’m about to tell you to wake up for sunrise. Yes, sunrise in the cities are the best to experience attractions with minimal crowds. This is why I saved wandering over the Charles Bridge, the John Lennon Wall and the Prague Castle for this moment.

The Charles Bridge in Prague is best at sunrise when the crowds are still sleeping.

Prague Castle has a stunning view overlooking the city. Not only that, there will most likely not be anyone else there with you. You can take in the architecture and beauty of the area all by yourself.

The John Lennon wall brings art and history together for a positive and peaceful message.

After the suns come up, it will be time to get some breakfast. Den Noc is my preference, mainly because of their insanely delicious pancake options with real maple syrup. Cafe Savoy is also a popular option that locals recommend.

Afternoon – nap or grab a free tour

I need my sleep, so I personally went back to the hostel to take a quick cat nap. If you are ready to attack the day and can fight the exhaustion, then keep going.

Europe in general has several free or paid walking tours. One of the free walking tours is run by Sandeman’s New Europe tours. Check them out to explore times and book yours today. While exploring cities on your own give you more freedom, it’s always good to have a guide. History and culture is a reason to travel and see the world, so learn and embrace it however long you can.

Night – flight home

Assuming you are truly here for just two days, then your flight is most likely in the late afternoon or night. Relax, pack up and give yourself some time to get to the airport. If you are taking the express bus to the airport, you can grab a yummy hot dog on the way out!
